    Caring staff, nourishing meals, lapses

I moved my parent to Martha Franks and overall I'm grateful - the staff are caring, attentive and professional, the facility is clean with beautiful grounds, meals are nourishing and there are lots of activities that create a warm, family-like, faith-centered community. I feel safe with nurses on call and many residents praise the excellent, compassionate care. That said, there have been intermittent administrative lapses, staff turnover and a few concerning safety/cleanliness incidents others have reported. On balance it's a loving place where residents thrive, but stay engaged with administration.

    About Martha Franks Retirement Community

Martha Franks Retirement Community sits at 1 Martha Franks Drive in Laurens, SC, and people know it as a place with a Christ-centered mission and a long history, supported by the South Carolina Baptist Ministries of Aging since 1954, which makes it stand out in the Piedmont region as the only retirement community connected to the Southern Baptist faith-there's a chapel with big windows, a cross on top, and regular church services, morning devotions, and Bible studies that make spiritual life central for everyone, including families and staff who can worship together. The campus has a peaceful feeling with landscaped grounds, a lake, paved walking paths, flowers like azaleas and dogwoods, patios, a sunroom, and a prayer garden, so folks can get out and enjoy the fresh air, and if you like pets, they're welcome too. Martha Franks gives a full range of care, so there's independent living-like cottages, patio homes, apartments, and garden apartments-plus assisted living, memory care for folks with Alzheimer's or other dementia, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and long-term nursing care, and all that means you don't have to worry about moving again if your needs change because they let you stay in the same community. The campus offers comforts like a wellness and activity center, a beauty salon and barber shop, a library, a bistro, a gift shop, and a Residents Lounge where people gather, and you'll find room features like patios or balconies, private bathrooms, walk-in closets, emergency call systems, and kitchenette spaces, whether it's a studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartment. If you need help, there are staff who can help out with daily activities, medication management, health services like physical therapy and occupational or speech therapy, home health care, and even companion care for respite stays, and there's a central monitoring room for campus security if you ever worry about safety. You won't have trouble getting to your appointments or outings, because there's a transportation service, and everyone gets to enjoy restaurant-style meals, including southern-style cooking in both a dining room and bistro, so eating becomes a social event, and if you ever want to take part in planned activities, there's a calendar full of outings, recreation, fitness, educational programs, and community events, run by an Activities Director-with things like worship, meditation, and caregiver support, and even the special Martha Franks Villa that hosts celebrations or gatherings for everyone to enjoy. Folks needing help with Alzheimer's or other memory concerns can get specialized care, and a staff member from the Alzheimer's Association is part of the support team, which is unique, and the FreedomLiving program means you don't have to deal with chores like repairs or maintenance anymore. Residents can choose extra help through Home Care services, and there are always 24-hour emergency maintenance and health staff available, with the whole community open every day, all the time. The campus accepts several types of insurance, including Medicaid, Medicare, private pay, Veterans Administration, and requires paperwork like medication lists and immunization records before moving in, and people who live here come from nearby counties like Abbeville, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Newberry, and Spartanburg. Martha Franks Retirement Community doesn't have an interpreter service, but it does offer a wide range of support for older adults, caregivers, and people with disabilities, and with long-standing ties to the Southern Baptist faith and focus on purposeful and joyful living, people here find meaning, fellowship, and peace of mind as they age.
