    Caring staff, great rehab, understaffed

I lived at Summit Hills and, for the most part, felt cared for and treated like family-therapy (Dani, Kay, Tatiana, Lacey and the PT team) and nursing were excellent, the staff were compassionate, activities plentiful, and the facility and dining were beautiful and spotless. Communication was generally strong with transparent progress updates and COVID precautions that allowed visits; rehab helped prepare me for going home. My experience wasn't perfect: I saw chronic understaffing and turnover, long call-light waits, some lapses in timely personal care, and occasional management/corporate decisions that felt money-driven. Despite those issues, the caring staff, top-notch therapy, vibrant social life, and overall safety make Summit Hills a place I'd recommend-just be aware of potential staffing and administrative caveats.

Summit Hills tries to focus care around each person's needs and goals, and that's true in their person-centered philosophy and programs, and you'll find staff and caregivers working round the clock, offering assistance with daily living and skilled nursing when necessary, while treating residents how they'd like to be treated. People with dementia or Alzheimer's get specialized attention in the Reflections at Summit Hills Memory Care unit, and there's a unique Waves Program that uses aquatic therapy for folks working through memory loss, which is something you don't see everywhere. Lots of amenities are on hand, like a swimming pool, clubhouse, fitness room, library, kitchen area, bar area, and gathering spaces along with restaurant-style dining rooms for daily meals with personal chefs, and there are independent dining options or fine dining for those wanting something special, so you won't feel like you're missing out. The community provides weekly housekeeping, maintenance-free living, transportation help, and bill pay assistance, along with a 24-hour emergency call system, which takes some worry off everyone's mind. There's also a national award-winning wellness program, with walking groups, exercise classes, water aerobics, Pilates, and Tai Chi, plus other activities scheduled so people can stay social and active. Seniors who need therapy after illness or injury have Short-Term Rehab options, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy through a partnership with Broad River Rehab Services. The grounds, with plenty of space and safe walkways, give folks room to move around and enjoy some fresh air with their pets or friends. Summit Hills uses unique names for their different facilities and service areas inside the community, and you're free to make your space your own. They cover many lifestyle and care types, including Active Adult, Independent Living +, Memory Care, and nursing home services, so someone can live independently and get more help if it's needed later. Summit Hills offers privacy, a vibrant community life, and services meant to take the work and stress out of daily living, and the staff strives to support residents' changing needs all in one place.
