    Dishonest management, poor living conditions

I appreciated the location, one-bedroom with appliances, carport and quick maintenance (Chris and Mike) - but that's where it stops. Management is dishonest: surprise lease changes, frequent rent hikes (about 46% in 3 years), improper deposit charges and eviction threats; I don't trust the manager or assistant manager. There are spy cameras by the garbage room, a locked garbage hazard, filthy/old appliances, mold/electrical issues, tiny rooms and no activities, and the building isn't soundproof. Smoking is allowed in apartments, fumes travel and ruin air quality for non-smokers. Staff can be helpful and fast at fixes, but they also yell, show zero empathy, and favoritism/harassment is common - I wouldn't recommend it for my grandma.

    About Shelby Manor Senior Apartments

Shelby Manor Senior Apartments sits at 13900 Lakeside Blvd N in Shelby Township, MI, right near shopping, parks, grocery stores, coffee shops, gas stations, pharmacies, and plenty of restaurants within a mile, and if you head just 3.6 miles out, you reach Shelby, Michigan proper, so you're not far from more services either, and with regional parks and walking areas, seniors who like getting outside can enjoy Shelby Township's 1,200 acres of outdoor space, plus there's the nearby Shelby Township Senior Center where you can find year-round activities. This is a 55+ and 62+ apartment community with both independent and assisted living, Alzheimer's care, supportive living, and respite care, each tailored for older adults who want different levels of help, whether you're active and want to do your own thing or need some extra hands day-to-day. You'll find a mix of apartment layouts here, with one or two bedrooms, plus private balconies or patios even if you're on an upper floor since every building's got multiple elevators, and in each apartment there's a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, as well as in-unit stackable washers and dryers, electric stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, and everything's set up with individually controlled heat and central air conditioning. Residents don't have to fuss with water and trash bills since those are covered, and there's both indoor and outdoor maintenance handled by staff, so you don't really have to worry about repairs or yard work, and if you ever need help, there's maintenance staff available, a leasing office with good follow-up, supported by on-site management including staff like someone named Madeline, who helps meet residents' needs. The clubhouse becomes a regular gathering spot for events such as bingo and crafting, while outside there are things like putt-putt, gazebos, and BBQ grills, so you can spend time with neighbors or friends and enjoy a bit of fresh air, and the community calendar's always got something going on to keep people social and active. Whether folks are coming for short-term respite care or a long-term home, the building aims for comfort and safety, with security and room for personal belongings like TVs, couches, and recliners, and apartments are spacious enough so you don't feel cramped. The setting encourages seniors to stay social, with activity programs and events put together to help people stay busy if that's what they like, and the environment tends to be friendly and easy-going, where most people say staff work hard to keep it clean and welcoming. Rooms have features for comfort and safety, including designs for seniors with disabilities or different medical needs, and there's always attention to making things easy for mobility, whether with extra storage space, elevators, or helpful amenities. Being a part of a network with other places like Pine Ridge Villas of Shelby and Shelby Park Manor, you can see it's built up a bit of a reputation as the 8th highest rated senior living community in Shelby, with an average rating of about 6.4 out of 10 from nine reviews, which is pretty standard for the area. The reception area at the office makes it easy to get questions answered, and with apartments on the first, second, and third floors, you have a choice about where you'd like to live, and everyone has quick access to elevators or stairs as they prefer. With its support services, social activities, and well-equipped apartments, Shelby Manor Senior Apartments aims to provide a secure, low-maintenance home for seniors who want peace of mind and a bit of company.
