Washington Square sits at 78 W Washington St in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and has a history of helping older adults, disabled adults, and those with lower incomes find stable places to live, and when you look at the apartments here, especially the two-bedroom ones with walk-in storage closets, dishwashers, and washers and dryers ready to set up, you get a sense they've thought about what makes life easier as people age; plus, the apartments are built for folks 55 and older, some are set aside as subsidized units for those with incomes under 20% of the area median, and there are features to help people with hearing and vision issues manage day-to-day tasks more safely. Washington Square has a simple online form for questions, a "Chat Now" tool, and ways to save the community to a list of favorites or even claim the business listing, all of which people find handy if they're comparing places or want to get in touch, and the social media pages and map view of the property make getting info a lot simpler than it used to be. The place doesn't advertise fancy outdoor spaces or mention what parking is included, but inside, you'll see a business center, a fitness room, a pantry, common spaces for meeting up, security cameras, and a laundry area; the community also holds activities so residents can meet others, keep learning and stay active, with some programs designed to support social, educational, and entertaining goals that keep up a good quality of life. There's support for day-to-day living, from staff trained to help with bathing, dressing, and medication, and there's memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, as well as assisted and independent living with the help you want or need, and where care is required, residents can choose to have things done their own way, with services focused on helping keep independence as long as possible. The apartments are pet friendly for small dogs and cats, there are rules on size, and you can use VA benefits for long term care, including Aid and Attendance if you're eligible and need extra help paying for the services, and while they don't spell out which utilities are included or all the costs, the place protects people regardless of orientation, gender identity, source of income, or housing vouchers. If you're looking for a senior place that feels like a regular apartment with a no-frills and straightforward setup, where the air is friendly and help is close by, and where there are options for disabled adults and for seniors wanting to live among their peers, Washington Square might be worth a call, especially for folks searching for safe, affordable, and low income housing laid out for both independent and supported living, with the community room, business center, and security features all in place-even if you have to ask about parking or if you're curious about what the outside looks like, because not every detail's available, but they do make sure there's always someone to answer questions or guide a search for the right kind of apartment and help you understand what's on offer.
Nice facility, management hinders recommendation
I love the location (close to family) and the apartments are wonderful, well-kept and reasonably priced - a comfortable fit for seniors. The community is friendly and there are things like Bible study, but management is inconsistent: some staff are attentive while others rarely show up, and complaints often get dismissed. I've experienced privacy lapses and maintenance entering without me present, plus favoritism, resident smoking, confusing parking/limited handicapped spots, and unexplained rent increases. Overall, nice facility and apartments, but the management and enforcement issues make it hard to fully recommend.
