The Pearl at Five Forks sits in a southern-style home near the Appalachian Mountains, surrounded by green trees, and has a calm and welcoming feel where people seem to settle in and really get to know each other, probably because the place draws people from places like Spartanburg and Greenville and even more nearby towns, and the focus here is on helping adults who live with memory problems, especially Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, so there's a special memory care neighborhood that's set up kind of like a regular home with familiar furniture and all the things that can help reduce confusion or wandering. The caregivers, called a family of caregivers, are trained for personalized support and watch residents throughout the day to see how they're doing, and there's also staff who handle medication and daily activities, with an activities director keeping families in the loop and planning things like Active Reminiscing, music therapy, and pet therapy. There's a courtyard and patio for quiet time, plus field trips and outings when the weather's nice, and sometimes schoolchildren visit during holidays, which tends to cheer everyone up. The Pearl at Five Forks provides different living options, including assisted living for those who need help with dressing or meals, memory care for those with cognitive problems, and independent living for folks over 55 who want their own place but with less fuss, so it's got all the modern things you'd expect, like laundry, food that's about as good as a restaurant, and housekeeping, but what people talk about most is how clean it is and how the staff stays calm and understanding when someone's having a hard day. Social activities round out the week, trying to make sure everyone stays engaged, and the comfort here comes from both the thoughtful design and the routines, whether it's in the Memory Care neighborhood with special programming or out in the wider community where everyone is encouraged to live with as much purpose as they can while holding onto their independence.
Compassionate dementia care; highly recommended
I placed my mom at The Pearl and have been very pleased - staff are warm, loving and professional, the memory-care team provides individualized dementia care, and the building is clean, well-designed with nice rooms and outdoor spaces. They offer engaging activities, strong teamwork, prompt medical responsiveness, low turnover, and made our family feel at ease during the move-in. A few caveats: evenings/weekends can be thinly staffed (dining/activity rooms), we had occasional housekeeping/laundry mix-ups and smaller room sizes, and costs have risen. Overall my mom is happier and relaxed - I highly recommend The Pearl for compassionate dementia care.
