    Severely understaffed, unresponsive, unsafe care

I regret placing my family member here. The facility is severely understaffed and unresponsive-call bells ignored, meals cold and minimal (canned veg, chicken-salad), belongings stolen, and management won't address problems. PT/OT staff worked hard, but therapy failed: my relative became anemic, developed a bedsore, caught COVID (which wasn't disclosed), and was left unattended for over a week. I do not recommend this place.

About Windsor Gardens Care Center Of Hayward

Windsor Gardens Care Center of Hayward sits in Hayward, CA, as a nursing home for seniors who need skilled care, offering both long and short-term stays with 75 certified beds and about 66 residents most days, and you'll find the place fully sprinklered for fire safety, featuring a garden, walking paths, and outdoor fitness areas that are kept secure because of the gated property. The staff, which includes registered nurses, licensed nurses, and certified nursing assistants, spend a precise mix of hours with each resident, making sure needs get met with care that's thorough, and the home keeps medical records accurately, paying extra attention to preventing mistreatment or abuse and stepping in if any concerns arise, while offering help with bathing, dressing, transferring, and daily living tasks, so residents with more support needs don't go without. Windsor Gardens pays special attention to health monitoring, with regular checks for pressure sores, pain levels, and infection control as well as making sure residents get pneumococcal and flu vaccinations, and care plans aren't rushed but set up within 7 days of moving in, involving nurses, doctors, and either the family or representatives, then updated often to fit changing needs, showing the staff's commitment to ongoing care.

The community's designed to serve elderly people dealing with physical or mental health challenges, with care for those living with Alzheimer's or dementia and therapies meant to reduce confusion and prevent wandering, providing services like speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and diabetic care, in addition to wound care, respiratory support, pain management, and rehabilitation programs for those recovering from surgery or major illness. There's help with medications, special podiatry, dentistry, mental health counseling, or even optometry and audiology, backed by pharmacy and laboratory services, as well as access to X-ray and psychotherapy when needed, and the home's set up for dialysis transportation and hospice care, so no detail's overlooked when it comes to health support. Residents and their families or representative can connect through resident and family councils, and there's a culture of helpfulness and friendliness among staff and neighbors, with programs for social activities, holiday parties, group outings, movie nights, recreation therapy, music programs, arts, games, and safe community engagement designed to encourage mental and emotional well-being, plus a library and restaurant-style dining for social lives that don't feel isolated.

Rooms are typically semi-private, offering a home-like setting that balances comfort and privacy, and the team gives special attention to people who aren't very mobile or need extra nursing supervision, with round-the-clock monitoring, call systems for emergencies, and scheduled daily activity along with wellness programs to support health and mobility. Windsor Gardens isn't part of a continuing care retirement community and isn't inside a hospital, but the company does own other homes, and it runs for profit with participation in Medicare and Medicaid, so seniors reliant on those programs aren't left out. Services include admission planning, discharge help, referrals, social support, nutritional counseling, medication management, and specialized care for wounds, ostomies, or catheters. Each day's schedule has a steady routine, and residents can expect help with homemaking and professional transportation for medical appointments, which makes daily living smoother, and those who need support after a stay in the hospital or from complex health concerns will find that Windsor Gardens sees to their care in a thorough, organized manner, setting clear timetables and following up to make sure needs get met and people's dignity stays protected.
