    Excellent therapy, concerning long-term issues

I had a mixed experience at Carrington Place. The therapy team was excellent - knowledgeable, engaged, and helped me make real rehab progress - and many nurses and aides were compassionate, friendly, and professional. But I also saw serious lapses: slow buzzer response, inconsistent CNA staffing, meds missed, staff sleeping at the desk, and residents left in urine; food service was unreliable (often cold and not meeting dietary needs). The building is dated but clean, close to home, with good activities and remodeling underway; administration and staff consistency need improvement. I'd recommend it for short-term rehab, but I wouldn't trust it for long-term or end-of-life care without fixes.

    About Carrington Place

Carrington Place sits at 600 Fullwood Lane in Matthews, North Carolina, about two miles from the nearest hospital, and it's been serving the community since 1994 so it's got some years of experience under its belt and you can tell they care about keeping a steady, comfortable place for seniors who need different levels of care whether that means assisted living, independent living, memory care, or short-term rehabilitation. The place is pretty roomy, with six wooded acres, 176 certified beds, private and shared rooms, and a home-like feel that doesn't try to look too fancy, but you can count on things like private bathrooms, kitchenettes, furnished units, air-conditioning, cable TV, and internet that help residents stay comfortable and connected without a lot of fuss. The grounds have walking paths and gardens when the weather's nice, along with common indoor spaces like sitting rooms with fireplaces, therapy rooms, a library, dining rooms, and even an ice cream parlor and a small shop, so there's plenty of places to spend time inside or out.

The staff at Carrington Place work day and night with nurses available 24 hours, so every resident gets daily help with medication, bathing, dressing, transfers, and meals when that's needed, plus there's always someone around for emergencies with a quick call system that's kind of reassuring, especially for those who need a bit more looking after like folks who aren't able to get around on their own, and there's both long-term and short-term care for people bouncing back from a hospital stay with a dedicated rehab section offering speech, occupational, and physical therapy, including special programs like the Progressive PATH Program which aims to get residents back home safely and reduce hospital trips. You've got different types of medical attention organized for each person, from post-surgery care to wound, cardiac, and pulmonary care, topped off with dental, podiatry, and pharmacy visits on site, and hospice or respite care if that's what a family needs.

Besides the day-to-day care, Carrington Place keeps things moving with lots of activities and programs, so you see art and music rooms, a theater for movies, scheduled daily activities, and outings that make for a bit of variety in the week, plus there's always games, exercise classes in the fitness room, and social events, both indoors and out, that help residents stay active, meet new folks, and fill their days even when families can't visit. Meal service uses as many organic options as possible, and residents sit down restaurant-style in one of several dining rooms, but staff can bring meals to a room if someone prefers privacy or can't get around for a bit, and the housekeeping and laundry services mean everybody's bed is made and clothes are clean without lifting a finger.

There's transportation arranged for doctor appointments and things like shopping, and while details on everything aren't always listed or specific (for example, it's not clear about parking or exactly where pets can go), Carrington Place allows residents to have pets, which is a comfort for a lot of people. The building itself is set up for wheelchairs, and staff work with resident and family councils that meet to make sure concerns are heard and problems are solved as a team. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted for health coverage, which can help a good bit with the bills, and there's a solid focus on accepting both male and female residents in gender-specific arrangements when that's needed for privacy or comfort.

You won't find any big pools or barbecue patios, but there are beauty and barber services right there, devotional services, and enough daily activity that folks always have something to do if they want it. Carrington Place has built a steady name in Matthews and the greater Charlotte area, keeping a peaceful, down-to-earth feeling and practical care at the heart of the whole operation, and tours are available for new residents and families to see how things are set up and talk over care needs with the team before moving in.
