    Great therapy, but poor nursing

I had a mixed experience at Culpeper Health & Rehab. The rehab and therapy team were excellent - attentive RNs/CNAs, caring staff, quick return home, and accommodations like dog-friendly visits - but day-to-day nursing was inconsistent and often understaffed. I saw poor communication, slow responses, safety and cleanliness issues (urine odor, soiled linens, even a dropped resident), and very bad/cold food at times. In short: great therapy and some compassionate staff, but serious staffing, hygiene, and communication problems that give me pause.

About Culpeper Health & Rehabilitation Center

Culpeper Health & Rehabilitation Center sits on Madison Road beside Lake Culpeper, close to Culpeper Regional Hospital, and people have turned to it for long-term care for over 50 years, so that shows they've got experience. The place has 180 beds in both private and shared rooms, all with their own bathroom and an accessible shower or tub, which is reassuring for folks who like a bit of privacy or need special features. Nurses, doctors, physical therapists, and other staff, including a dietitian, keep an eye on residents and offer skilled nursing along with all sorts of therapy and medical services. People come here to recover from surgeries, strokes, heart attacks, falls, and even illnesses like respiratory problems, or to stay longer for more support, and there's therapy offered up to 7 days a week, often for 2-3 hours a day, so nobody's left without help if they need it.

The gym's filled with modern machines like the Woodway Walkerview treadmill, HUR iBalance, stair trainers, and cyber cycles, and everyone can use these tools to keep up their strength or relearn things after an accident or illness. What's different here is programs like the LifeWorks Rehab® Recovery Program, the Recovery Map™, and the Personal Report Card™, which let people and their families track progress and see where things stand. There are always a lot of activities going on, arranged by an activities director, and the dining room is restaurant-style, serving different choices made by chefs, which suits folks who like something fresh instead of the same old thing every day.

There's a focus on infection control, though some records have shown deficiencies that need to be considered, and the management team, led by Administrator Mr. Alonso Acevedo and Christina Wiley, works under Rybst Central Manager LLC and Medical Services of America. The center is classified as a Skilled Nursing Facility, and accepts credit cards, with semi-private daily rooms at $245 and private daily rooms at $318. Full-time staff is about 121 people, and they handle over 62,000 patient days a year, so you know people are staying busy. The center's wheelchair accessible, air-conditioned, and has on-site parking and restrooms, plus supervision and safety features throughout. This combination of doctors, nurses, therapists, amenities for comfort, and attention to day-to-day needs makes Culpeper Health & Rehabilitation Center a place for both short stays and longer-term living, all right by the lake, and folks can look up more information on their website at www.culpeperhealthrehab.com if curious.
