    Caring staff, beautiful grounds, pricey

I'm impressed - friendly, genuinely caring staff; outstanding, gourmet dining; beautiful, resort-like grounds and hotel-like, spacious apartments with great amenities (heated pool, movie theater, activity rooms). My loved one settled in quickly, is very social and well cared for across levels, but be warned: there's a very steep buy-in and high upfront costs, a confusing meal-point system with extra charges and no rollover, a long waitlist, and occasional disorganization around move-in/pricing. Overall I feel she's in good hands and would recommend Capriana if the price fits.

About Capriana Retirement Living & Assisted Living

Capriana Retirement Living & Assisted Living sits in Brea, California, and is part of the Oakmont Senior Living family, providing independent living, assisted living, memory care, and a range of care services for older adults who need help with daily activities or want community living. The community has a three-story building and offers studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments and casitas that are bright, with large windows, balconies, walk-in closets, and modern kitchens featuring stainless steel appliances, granite counters, and wooden cabinets, with bathrooms that have walk-in showers and double vanities, all built to make life comfortable. Residents can bring their pets. Capriana takes care of chores like home maintenance and room service, so residents don't have to worry about repairs or everyday cleaning.

The grounds include walking paths, a garden, a courtyard, and landscaped areas with palm trees, a pond, and plenty of outdoor seating, plus there's a heated swimming pool, outdoor patio with a fire pit, and resident gardens for people who like spending time outdoors or gardening. The community also features indoor spaces like a movie theater with leather recliners for movie nights, a cozy library with a fireplace, a game room with billiards and cards, an art studio for creative projects, a salon, a lounge and bar area with soft lighting, and elegant dining rooms with chandeliers. Residents can enjoy chef-prepared meals in a restaurant-style setting with a rotisserie and pizza oven, and the culinary staff focuses on nutrition and taste with menus planned by professionals.

Health care is available on-site, including a full-time nurse and a wellness center, so residents get help with medication management, personal care, and medical needs, along with 24-hour supervision if needed. The Traditions Memory Care program serves those living with dementia or other memory impairments, offering specialized therapies and security. There's a continuum of care, so services can adjust if a resident's needs change over time, and staff help with activities of daily living like bathing, dressing, and reminders.

There are plenty of activities to keep people busy, such as fitness classes in the gym with cardio equipment and space for yoga, social gatherings, music and art programs, events, and excursions. Residents can play games, read, watch movies, or just relax in the common areas or lounge. Staff work to create a welcoming, friendly atmosphere where residents feel like family, and the focus is on emotional well-being and a high quality of life, which shows in positive reviews from families and residents. Capriana is close to healthcare services, with Kaiser Permanente Medical Building and CVS pharmacy nearby, and supports up to 200 residents as licensed by the state of California. The community is known for some innovative programming too, like virtual reality therapy for memory care, so there are always options for engagement and stimulation.
