    Caring, safe care with caveats

I chose Katella for my mom and overall I'm glad we did - the staff are genuinely caring, attentive, and communicative, with strong COVID precautions and one-on-one attention that put us at ease. The building is clean, homey and well-located near doctors and family; studio rooms are the right size and residents seemed happy and engaged in activities and memory care. Meals are decent though sometimes repetitive, activities can be hit-or-miss, parking is tight, and there were occasional surprises around extra fees and staff consistency. Despite a few bumps, the culture of kindness, safety, and responsive nursing gave us peace of mind. I would recommend Katella for families seeking compassionate, competent care.

    About Katella Senior Living Community

Katella Senior Living Community sits in Los Alamitos, California, and welcomes older adults looking for assisted living, memory care-including dementia and Alzheimer's care-independent living, and hospice services, and you'll find that the community helps with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and taking medicine, with staff support available any time of day or night, including nurses for 12-16 hours and a 24-hour call system. Residents can stay in private, fully furnished apartments with their own bathrooms, and they'll get help with personal care as needed while still enjoying independent living. The dining room serves freshly prepared meals with restaurant-style service and options for special diets, like diabetes, vegetarian, and kosher, and there are always snacks and drinks available. There's a full schedule of daily activities and social events, with both staff-planned and resident-run options, and folks can enjoy getting together in the library, computer area, gaming room, or fitness room, spending time in the garden patio, or using the wellness center, and there's even a beauty salon for hair and personal care services, so residents can get what they need without leaving the building. Katella's grounds are landscaped, with outdoor spaces and walking paths, and the Spanish-style exterior and resort-like interior, with palm trees and fountains, give it a relaxed California feel that's easy to settle into. For trips to the doctor or outings, transportation is available, sometimes for an extra cost, and the staff help arrange rides for medical or other appointments. The community keeps up with California safety and inspection rules, with food storage and temperature checks, and administrative oversight, and has no recent citations or deficiencies. For those needing short-term help or recovering from a hospital visit, respite care is offered for a few days or longer. Katella has special security and supports for memory care residents, including tailored routines, cognitive activities, and secure premises to help people feel safe, and the compassionate staff keeps a close eye on everyone's well-being. Residents can enjoy a hassle-free, maintenance-free lifestyle, and with all the shared spaces like the small library, the computer center, and the outdoor sitting areas, there are plenty of chances to relax, take part in activities, or just visit with neighbors. The staff aims to help everyone stay as independent as possible, but they're always there to help when needed, so you never have to feel like you're on your own.
