    Clean, quiet, welcoming; minor issues

I'd give this place 4/5. I was disappointed to learn there are no semi-private rooms despite being told otherwise and a few promised facilities weren't available, but otherwise I was impressed: clean, odor-free rooms with hard flooring (no scatter rugs), some with half-baths and a private common shower, reasonably priced, and staff who are welcoming and accommodate individual needs. Quiet, low-traffic street near a country club and high school, with a pleasant dining/living area and a social atmosphere - visitors I know had positive experiences.

    About Heritage Hills

Heritage Hills in Millbrae, California, used to be a small senior care home designed for up to six residents, which meant everyone got more personal help and attention from staff, and folks had a pretty cozy, homey environment with apartment-style rooms, one-bedroom or shared, making it easier to get to know neighbors and caregivers. Staff were on-site around the clock and helped with things like bathing, dressing, laundry, light cleaning, and medication reminders, so nobody had to worry about doing everything alone, and they even supported seniors with special diets, diabetes, or high blood pressure, making sure care matched up with each person's needs. The kitchen made three hot meals every day, served with snacks and drinks anytime, and menus shifted to fit different tastes and nutrition plans, including vegetarian choices.

The community focused on assisted living, memory care for folks with dementia or Alzheimer's, and options for those needing more help as they aged, letting residents stay and change the support they got instead of having to move somewhere new. Heritage Hills worked as a micro community, so there wasn't the big crowd feeling-more like everyone got to know each other, and caregivers really paid attention, which helped keep a warm, friendly, and respectful mood throughout the place. Seniors could join daily activities, like music or art programs, animal therapy, movie nights, table games, and small outings, meant to keep everyone's mind sharp and bodies moving, while also bringing a bit of fun into the routine; there were even exercise rooms, book spots, and chances to spend time outside in garden areas or take steam baths and hot tub soaks.

Transportation was available for things like doctor visits, church, or errands, and residents could use the maintenance-free features of the property so household chores didn't stack up, plus the setup was wheelchair friendly with easy-access showers and tools for folks who needed two people to help them move. No pets were allowed, but the community set up activities and support programs for both those who needed short-term care and folks wanting to live more independently, so families could rest easy knowing someone was always around to step in if needed. Health care on-site included wound care, nurse supervision, incontinence help, and insulin support for diabetics, with staff ready for high-acuity care and even coordination with local doctors when more medical attention was needed, making the place suitable for a range of health concerns in later life.

Heritage Hills didn't have the crowds or busy halls of bigger places, instead centering on personal respect and building real bonds, while also bringing added comforts like a hairdresser, parlor, group café spaces, and easy parking or rides for appointments. Memory care residents could take part in therapies meant to keep them engaged and safe, which really mattered for families worrying about confusion or wandering. The property was known for a high community review score, thanks to caring staff and a balance of independence, attention, and safety. The place was licensed by California's Department of Social Services, located close to parks, clinics, shops, and pharmacies in a friendly Millbrae neighborhood. Heritage Hills is now closed.
