    Overpriced unclean uncaring inconsistent care

I placed my loved one here and had a mixed but mostly negative experience. The facility felt overpriced, often smelled of urine, had small/dirty rooms and a locked-down, soulless atmosphere; management was unresponsive and many staff were rude, harsh, and treated residents without dignity. There were caring staff, kind owners, and tasty meals, but the inconsistent, unprofessional care led us to file a complaint and move to a place that respects residents. I cannot recommend this facility.

    About Lakeshore Residential Care

Lakeshore Residential Care is a state-licensed assisted living and residential care home for older adults, License #015601408, in Oakland, California, right near hospitals, shopping areas, senior centers, and close to Lake Merritt, and what's good about this place is it sits on a single level and holds up to 38 residents, which makes things simple for moving around, especially for folks who use wheelchairs, since all the rooms and showers allow easy access, and then you've got both private and shared furnished rooms, each one set up with walk-in showers or full bathtubs, and you can bring a cat or dog since they accept pets here, which makes it feel a bit more like home for those who want to keep their old pal with them. Everyone gets three meals a day along with snacks available any time, and the dining services stay highly rated, so people don't have to worry about going hungry or feeling left out, and the staff also take care of all the housekeeping, laundry, and dry cleaning, so there's less to fuss about.

Residents can get help with bathing, dressing, medication management, and moving around, even if it takes two people or special lifts to assist, and a team of licensed nurses and aides is always there, watching out for each person, checking health, and coming up with personalized care plans, which works well for those living with dementia, diabetes, incontinence, or other chronic issues, and they also help with behavioral care, so everyone's needs get covered as those needs change over time and people can stay in the same community even as they need extra help. The memory care section sits in a separate, secure building, with technology such as bracelets and a wander alert system keeping folks safe if they tend to walk off, and the area is built to protect residents with Alzheimer's or other memory struggles, giving families some peace of mind.

Staff stay on site around the clock, always ready to respond to call buttons, and they offer continuous supervision and assistance, plus free transportation for doctor visits, shopping, or outings, since the building is close to a bus line and resident parking is available for those who still drive. There's a full calendar of activities set up by an Activity Director-folks can join fitness, creative, social, and spiritual groups each day, plus enjoy offsite trips, and the place even offers in-house religious services along with devotional time elsewhere. Amenities include a well-kept garden, walking paths, a stocked library, a barbershop and salon, and indoor lounges where people can spend time together or read a book.

People can smoke outdoors if they wish, and the atmosphere stays pretty cozy and peaceful, which helps everyone feel at ease, and because of the smaller size, residents usually get plenty of personal attention. The facility offers respite care for those needing a short stay, hospice for end-of-life support, and care for mild cognitive impairment, all with a focus on helping folks stay independent as long as possible. Staff work hard to maintain a high standard of cleanliness, and the environment is set up to support everyone's well-being, helping both body and mind so residents can reach their own best potential, even as circumstances change.
