      Nice facility, neglect and overcharging

I had mixed feelings. The facility is very nice and small (about five residents) with a friendly dog and some caring staff, but I saw unprofessional caregivers refuse bathroom help and neglect residents — my loved one was miserable so we withdrew them and were even charged for gloves; pricing also seemed high and unclear.

      About The Homestead

The Homestead, also called Liann's Homes - The Homestead, sits in the McClintock Manor neighborhood of Tempe, Arizona, at 1985 E Pebble Beach Dr, and is a smaller residential care home with room for up to five seniors, so the setting stays quiet, cozy, and more like a real house than a large facility, which some folks find a lot more comfortable. The community has private and semi-private rooms, each with enough space for beds, an armoire, a small TV, and even a spot for a little entertainment center, and every room comes with an accessible shower, private bath, housekeeping help, and safety features like smoke detectors and alarms. The grounds are landscaped and tidy, showing a sun room, outdoor garden, a fireplace, and even a swimming pool, with indoor and outdoor common areas, plus places to park for both residents and guests, and location near public transportation, while there's transportation arranged for outings and appointments, though sometimes there's a cost involved.

The Homestead is known for friendly, helpful staff, with trained caregivers around the clock to help with everyday needs like bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication. Many residents say they feel comfortable with the staff, and the atmosphere stays welcoming and supportive, helping family members feel at ease about their loved ones' safety and social life. There are services for every stage of senior care, including assisted living, independent living, memory care, nursing home services, respite care for short-term stays, in-home care, hospice, and adult daycare, with more personalized support for those with Alzheimer's or other memory loss. Nurses are on-site, and staff provide help with medication, diabetic care, incontinence needs, non-ambulatory care, and high acuity care for those needing more medical oversight, so residents with different health conditions get attention suited to their situation.

Activities in the community encourage social connection and fun, from arts and crafts, movie nights, painting, singing, cards, bingo in the Alzheimer's unit, puzzles, karaoke, and gardening to outings at parks, restaurants, and movies, and there're always holiday and birthday celebrations. There's even a beautician and salon on-site, so residents can get their hair done without leaving home, and therapists visit to provide physical therapy. There's a library, resident parking, a sun room, and plenty of inviting shared spaces, plus pets are allowed which is nice for those who want animal company, and smoking isn't allowed indoors, which is better for health and comfort. The dining area gets good marks, and meals are cooked on site with an eye toward nutrition and quality; healthy snacks are available too, and personal services like laundry and dry cleaning help keep things running smooth.

The Homestead has won several awards, like Best of Senior Living and Best Activities in Senior Living, and generally gets high scores from reviewers, including a 4.6-star rating from SeniorsAdvisor.com. It's one of several care homes operated in the region, and there are other options with different amenities and care levels within a short drive, ranging from those focused on a more active lifestyle to those built for more medical or memory care support. The network provides free help to families looking for the best place for their needs and supports family caregivers looking for some extra time for themselves with respite care. Staff understand the stresses families might have and answer questions to help with the senior living transition. The atmosphere stays peaceful, and many residents like the smaller, community-focused setup compared to bigger, busier places. Housekeeping, cable TV, accessible showers, meal service, and on-site health staff are standard, and there's enough to do to keep residents active without being overwhelming, always with the main goal to help residents' health and independence while keeping things simple and homelike.
