    Caring staff; facility dirty, unsafe

I had a mixed experience: there are caring, dedicated aides and some nice activities, but overall the place felt run-down, often dirty, and sometimes smelled of urine. Staffing and management were inconsistent-some friendly, knowledgeable staff and a helpful director, but also rude or inexperienced caregivers, medication and hygiene lapses, missing clothes, falls, and even untreated infections reported. Costs are high for the level of upkeep; I would not feel comfortable sending my grandmother here.

    About Mountain View Alzheimer's Center

Mountain View Alzheimer's Center sits in Claremont, California, nestled in the scenic foothills, and it's got a strong focus on caring for people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, creating a safe place where residents with memory loss can find some comfort and structure without losing all their independence. The facility serves up assisted living, long-term, short-term, respite, and in-home care, and keeps a high staff-to-resident ratio so there are always well-trained eyes on the floor, staff who've picked up decades of experience dealing with the tricky parts of dementia like agitation, sun-downing, wandering, and even escape attempts, always keeping residents safe but letting them walk around both indoors and in the secure, landscaped gardens outside, which makes a big difference for those who like a little fresh air but need someone to look out for them at all times. The team at Mountain View Alzheimer's Center knows how to handle all sorts of behaviors that can come with cognitive decline, giving special attention when folks are having trouble, and figuring out the best ways to keep them comfortable, clean, and well-fed, with nutritious daily meals and snacks, whether they're eating in the cozy living room or in their private or semi-private rooms, all set up to feel home-like.

This place has a balanced approach to keeping everyone safe, so while there's a locked perimeter and strict no-smoking policy indoors, residents who can still move around safely can enjoy indoor and outdoor spaces without constant alarms going off. It's set up to allow folks to have their own routines and preferences, whether that's showering at a certain time or enjoying certain foods or activities. The Mountain View Alzheimer's Center has a good-sized library, a barber and salon, and keeps residents active with daily structured events, both for physical activity and cognitive stimulation, figuring out what works best for each person so no one has to just sit and stare at the wall all day. Pets are allowed in the community for those who want a little extra comfort, and there's complimentary transportation to help folks get to appointments or community events, as well as regular visits from a medical director and local physicians, plus strong coordination with nearby pharmacies like CVS. Their system, which has been in place since 1985, covers everything from daily care like bathing and dressing to tricky stuff like medication management, incontinence care, and behavior support, always making sure the care stays personal.

The center holds up a steady commitment to keep families in the loop, encouraging family visits and offering resources and emotional support for loved ones, because dementia care's never easy on anyone involved. Hospice services are available for those who need end-of-life support, and the staff always works to treat everyone with respect, aiming for dignity and a good quality of life, with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where folks often comment on how residents look well-groomed and genuinely cared for. With space for up to 40 residents and a license issued by the state of California (License #: 197801605), Mountain View Alzheimer's Center stays focused on both safety and freedom, making sure every resident can feel loved, respected, supported, and as independent as possible throughout their journey.
